San José
San José (Sant Josep in Catalan) is a charming village in the west of Ibiza, set in rolling countryside at the foot of the island's highest mountain, Sa Talaia, at 475 metres. San José is the seat of the municipality of the same name in the southwest of the island and has a few excellent restaurants, shops and bars. Just off the main street is the imposing church, in front of which you can enjoy moments of peace in the shade of the trees.
Although people from all over the world have made their new home here, San José is still a traditional Ibizan village. The church bells ring every morning at eight, old men sit in cafés drinking their brandy, and the locals often stop their cars in the middle of the street to chat a bit with each other out of the car window. The pace of life here is definitely more leisurely than in the larger holiday resorts on the island.
San José has an amazing selection of restaurants and bars for its size - from exclusive restaurants to pizzerias, traditional bars and pubs serving great cocktails and live music. You'll find most restaurants and bars on the main street or in the smaller streets around. If you want something to eat, just take a walk and study the menus (most of which are also available in English) - you're guaranteed to find exactly what you're in the mood for.
