San Josep de Sa Talaia
San Josep de sa Talaia is located in the interior of Ibiza, just 15 kilometres from the capital Eivissa. The name comes from Mount Sant Josep, the highest mountain on the island, which is a spectacular viewpoint at 475 metres high. With 80 kilometres of coastline, this is the municipality with the most beaches and coves in all of Ibiza, some of which are as famous as Cala Comte, Cala Bassa or Cala Vedella, with crystal-clear waters and surrounded by pine forests that reach the sea.
It is worth exploring the typical Mediterranean landscapes inland, where there are a multitude of whitewashed houses with traditional architecture. Here you will find the island's only two natural parks: Ses Salines and Cala d' Hort. The historical heritage of Sant Josep is also very interesting, with numerous medieval churches, archaeological sites such as the Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and some defensive towers on the coast. Be sure to visit the Cova Santa, a beautiful natural cave. Sant Josep is therefore an ideal place to enjoy the beach and go on excursions on foot, by bike or, if you prefer, on horseback, as there are several riding schools. Also worth mentioning is the folk dance Ball Pagés, which is almost as colourful as the regional costumes that accompany it.
