Santa Gertrudis
A place, right in the centre of the island, that surprises with a lively life. And rightly so! The newly designed central village square with its whitewashed 18th century church is worth a visit for its striking bell tower alone. The beautifully designed pedestrian zone attracts visitors with a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants, from quaint traditional to stylish gourmet cuisine.
The white village of Santa Gertrudis is only about ten minutes away from Eivissa by car.
In the past, this place in the heart of the island was considered a meeting place for artists and bon vivants, and today it still enjoys great popularity among locals and holidaymakers. A visit to the Bar Costa should be part of the standard programme: the furnishings of the cosy restaurant are quaint, dozens of hams dangle from the ceiling, a cosy fireplace crackles in winter and the works of countless artists hang on the walls. Over the decades, a considerable collection has been built up and today the boss can proudly claim to have probably the largest art collection on the island.
A nice anecdote about some of the works of art: In the past, some of the artists were still breadwinners and could pay with their works in the bar. In the meantime, one or the other artist has actually made it to fame. And so some of these paintings have turned out to be small investments.
A special feature is the auction house "Casi Todo", which opened its doors as early as 1973.
Regular auctions are held here, where you can pick up interesting items, real antiques as well as absolutely bizarre bargains.
You can also buy one or two beautiful pieces in the sales room.
